Alternatively, steel can be used to improve the mechanical strength of engineering plastics acting as a dual laminate or composite. Steel can deteriorate over time and need replacing. A guarding project may require a customer-built frame to hold the Polycarbonate sheet.

An impact bed may require a steel plate support to overcome bending over a wide span. Engineering plastics can be bonded to carbon steel.

Stainless steel 302, 304, 316 can be used in corrosive environments and is very common in food handling and marine equipment. Effective can manufacture stainless steel fittings and fasteners.
